About Our Store

In the quiet towns of Kutch, the rhythm of life is measured in knots. Bandhani is not just a textile; it is a meticulous language of patience and precision.

Our journey begins in the vast desert landscape of Gujarat, where the sun-drenched earth has witnessed centuries of craft. The word 'Bandhani' comes from the word 'Bandh', meaning to tie. It is an art form where artisans use their fingernails to pluck the cloth into tiny bindings that resist the dye.

At Artisan Bandhani, we are dedicated to bridging the gap between this age-old tradition and the modern world. Every piece we create carries the fingerprints of history, ensuring that this cultural heartbeat continues to thrive in contemporary homes and wardrobes.

Symbolic Representation of Bandhani

Arif Khatri

THIRD-GENERATION ARTISAN & FOUNDER

“This legacy is carried forward by Arif Khatri, who learned the craft from his father and grandfather, witnessing the magic of patterns appearing from thousands of tiny knots since childhood.”

Arif’s mission is simple yet profound: to preserve the authenticity of Bandhani while empowering the local community. By providing stable livelihoods to hundreds of artisan families, he ensures that the ‘bindu’ (dot) which defines Bandhani remains a mark of quality and heritage across the globe.

The Bandhani Process

A labor of love that transforms plain silk and cotton into intricate masterpieces.

Tie

Each tiny knot is a moment of patience. The fabric is pinched and tied with thread to protect it from the dye.

Dye

The fabric is tied thousands of times before it ever touches color, then submerged in rich, organic vats.

Reveal

As the knots are opened, patterns slowly reveal themselves, creating a unique texture known only to Bandhani.
